I. GENERAL QUESTIONS

What is the Greater Church of Lucifer about?

The GCoL is a brother/sisterhood and a philosophical project aiming to be a viable option for people seeking to work actively with their own spirituality through self-knowledge and by applying the transforming knowledge symbolized by the archetype of Lucifer and its related principles. The GCoL strives to be a meeting point for people sharing an interest in different subjects which are explored in our meetings, such as Esotericism, Occultism, Magic, Philosophy, etc., all this viewed from the perspective of the Left-Hand Path. The GCoL proposes an active form of spirituality in order to embrace life in its full potential, acting with responsibility and guided by reason.

What’s the origin of the GCoL?

The GCoL was established in Houston, Texas as a gathering of individuals who were discussing and beginning a practice of Luciferianism from "The Bible of the Adversary" and "Dragon of the Two Flames" by Michael W. Ford and "Initiation into the Left Hand Path" by Jeremy Crow. Informal meetings led to discussions with both Mr. Crow and soon after Mr. Ford which founded officially the Greater Church of Lucifer. At present time, the GCoL is directed and guided by Three Archons. The Archons (leaders and Co-Presidents) of the GCoL are: Michael W. Ford, Jeremy Crow and Hopemarie Ford.

Where is the GCoL?

The Greater Church of Lucifer has an active presence in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Brasil, and the rest of Central America is under the purview of Costa Rica. There are also people interested in the GCoL movement in many countries of Europe and Asia.

Are you Satanists?

We are not Satanists in any strict religious sense. Luciferians differ from Satanists in terms of approach and philosophy. The two are compatible yet have varying differences. Satanism is a philosophy with many different approaches, and we recognize that it may hold ideas that are interesting to some people. A member of the GCoL can be a Satanist, if he/she follows the basic principles of Luciferian philosophy, such as an active search for knowledge, applying said knowledge for personal transformation, respect and tolerance towards others, etc. Luciferianism can be seen, from a certain perspective, as having evolved from LaVeyan philosophy and Western ceremonial magic in its modern manifestation. This 'evolution' does not imply the notion that Luciferians view themselves as 'superior' to Satanists. There are many ancient traditions and esoteric schools of thought and initiatory practices which have contributed to the modern 'collective' of Luciferianism. Specifically, Luciferians find value individually in striving towards balance between rational, pragmatic awareness of the carnal 'self', a healthy ego with the discipline to test you strengths and seeking insight and thus overcoming weakness. The Spiritual balance is that Luciferians validate the methods of striving to attain personal, inner (and as result, outer) power from the results of self-reliance and 'faith' in your instincts and temple of mind, body, spirit. However, this depends on each person’s approach. Beyond the principles of Power, Wisdom, Balance and Force, everyone is encouraged to shape a personal view of Luciferianism.

Are you anti-Christian?

We are not against Christianity, nor against any specific religion. More precisely, we take a stand against any form of dogmatic thinking, be it religious, political, etc., since this kind of thinking keeps the individual in a state of existential dormancy and somnolence which keeps him/her from taking a conscious responsibility of their own lives, and of their own power, which is wasted in meaningless fantasies and ideas which deny personal divinity. Those advanced in the validation of applying Luciferian philosophical principles have overwhelmingly through knowledge, insight and goal-achieving results do not think of Christianity from either a negative or positive perspective (unless irritated by door-knocking 'do you know the lord...' sheep or similar types).

Christianity is a monotheistic, dogmatic religious myth perpetuated and used first by a decaying late Roman Empire to control and ease the tensions of potentially rebellious, majority poor of the cities. A little history with some evidence comparison is an aspect of gaining knowledge to liberate restrictive beliefs (i.e. 'what if I am wrong about god...?'). Many who are attracted to Luciferianism sometimes are repulsed by their religious and cultural dogmas pushed on them since childhood. In early stages, the practice and identification with the symbol of the Adversary and blatant rejection of Christianity can be a joyful, cathartic process of Self-Liberation. Those long experienced often move on in their process of Apotheosis and regard little for Christianity.

Are you a religion?

We are not a religion in the traditional sense. Etymologically, “religion” comes from the latin root religare, “to re-unite”, and the GCoL seeks that the individual re-unites the aspects of him/herself that have been dispersed by traditions, culture and social conditioning. This implies an intense work of self-knowledge and self-discovering. Man, know Thyself! The Luciferian is encouraged to seek their own vision of reality: Luciferianism begins as a philosophy and can take any form or shape necessary to become a road towards an inner meeting with oneself. We do not worship anything other than our own potential which drives us towards divinity. Luciferian books and grimoires (i.e. Michael W. Ford, Jeremy Crow, etc) including 'Wisdom of Eosphoros' do not proclaim a 'divine message' commanding 'Laws' from some invisible, unverifiable (objectively) source; these works are both maps (records) towards a foundation of initiatory practice which must be validated with results by the individual. Luciferianism is a Philosophy.

Why are you called “church”?

The word “church” means a gathering of people with similar ideas. The GCoL seeks to be a meeting point for people with different cultural backgrounds, desiring to share their knowledge and working together with other people to create a shared knowledge that is useful for everyone’s spiritual growth. The GCoL does not support degrading acts which are usually associated with religious sects, such as the blind submission towards a charismatic leader, acts involving harming oneself or others, or the monetary exploitation of members. Our 'church' represents a body of individuals, all unique unto personal application, living within the 11 Luciferian Points of Power as a guide of inspired self-determination.

Do you perform animal or human sacrifices?

We do NOT perform sacrifices of any kind. We categorically reject any act that involves hurting a third party, since we conceive life as something unique and beautiful, and as something to be respected in accordance to our own divinity. Part of the Luciferian morality is to treat others as one would like to be treated. The ancient concept of 'sacrifice' was to 'make sacred' a gift to the patron(s) deities of a particular pantheon. This practice included even the Judeo-Christian cult of Yahweh/Jehovah. Luciferians do not submit or bow to any force, perceived deity or conceptualized power outside of the self. In certain ceremonies of Luciferians who are practitioners of traditions of Left Hand Path Witchcraft, Paganism or various Magical Traditions, Fumigation (burning of incense as an offering), Libation (pouring of liquid as offering) and hymns/invocations are ritual ceremonies honoring both the 'Deific Mask' (an archetypical force or power inherent in both Nature and the Self) and your guidance of that symbolic act to celebrate and focus upon self-accountability. These traditions are not a part of the GCoL organization in any formal sense.

Do you perform any kind of rituals or ceremonies?

There is currently a Ceremony of Illumination, which transforms the interested person into a full member of the GCoL. Some of the benefits of being a part of the GCoL include, besides the fraternity, the possibility to attend to private meetings, religious services (such as other kind of Ceremonies and Luciferian weddings), the chance to lead a new section, to order exclusive materials and to gain access to the various inner orders linked with our organization, such as The Order of Phosphorus (TOPH). For more information, see Section II: Administrative Questions.

Do you worship Lucifer/Satan/the Devil?

In the GCoL there is no worship of any kind towards any figure. Gods, goddesses and demons from different cultures are seen as latent forces lying in the human soul that can be used as tools in the spiritual ascent of the individual, or as symbols nurturing our psyche, without this involving the belief in any sort of spiritual paradigm. These are defined as 'Deific Masks'. The archetype or symbol of Lucifer, Satan, Ahriman, Hecate, Lilith, Belial and other Deific Masks are first a model of inspiration for the independence and the personal strength of conviction towards self-reliance of the individual.

Are Lucifer/Satan real?

We do not conceive the objective existence of an entity called Satan/Lucifer/God/Yahve, etc. Within the GCoL, these are the names given to certain powers hidden in the depths of the human soul, which can be worked with so the individual can evolve spiritually. This is achieved by exploring the symbolism that has been associated with these figures throughout history. Do not join the GCoL to in personal confusion (often a lack of knowledge) to seek personal 'control' by pushing a 'reality of the conscious deity which speaks to me' old story as we have ZERO interest or concern for how you live your life. If you have inner-spiritual mythologies which inspire your attainment of continual Apotheosis around the 11 Luciferian Points of Power, then you are welcomed here!

Are Lucifer and Satan the same thing?

The GCoL conceives Lucifer and Satan as two different forces representing different principles. “Lucifer” means “bearer of light”, and this light is the freedom-bearing knowledge that can transform man into a god; “Satan” means “opposer” or “accuser”, and symbolizes the powers opposing the established order and seeking to destroy it. The idea of Lucifer can include the Christian Satan, but Lucifer is a symbol which transcends this pantheon and its mythos, having its origins in pre-Christian times, and being found in many different cultures throughout time. You may identify Lucifer as Satan if you can consider a power in nature has different manifestations and is symbolic of certain elements as you wish. Luciferians are not concerned with potential "missions" to either detract the serious application and study of our philosophy with abstract faith-driven convictions.

What does it mean to “become a god”?

The goal of the GCoL is Apotheosis, which means literally “to become a god”. This must be understood as becoming responsible of one’s own existence and of everything happening in it. Knowledge is power, and power implies a responsibility towards oneself and others. Knowledge must be turned into action so the individual can transform his or her life for the better. By transforming oneself, the individual transforms their environment. To become a god means to become responsible for one’s own life so it can be directed towards any goal one wills. The process of self-deification in the GCoL is explained in the method of Illumination – Liberation – Apotheosis, and supported by the 11 Luciferian Points of Power. We are not 'Gods' in the sense of the often out-of-context and little-read interpretations of a monotheistic deity. We don't believe in miracles and scraps from the table of an invisible and cruel 'creator' or 'destroyer' who 'loves' us while condemning us to 'hell' if we don't invest in blind faith. Apotheosis means the results and validations of self-determined accountability in life from your thoughts to the results of your actions. Don't blame the devil when you do something stupid and regret the action that caused the result. Don't pray or praise something when you win in a sports game or get a decent tax-refund, it is mostly cause and effect so you can praise or blame yourself.

Do you make Satanic/Diabolical pacts?

We do not make “pacts” with any external entity nor do we believe in their existence as defined by superstitions based on ignorance and fear. The idea of a “satanic pact” implies the belief that Satan is a conscious external power that can fulfill one’s wishes for a price. The GCoL conceives the individual as an agent of change, someone who uses rituals and symbols to influence their unconscious so it can bring about the individual’s Will, without the need to negotiate with external entities.

Do you teach how witchcraft/sorcery/black magic/how to make a satanic pact?

We are not a school of magic nor do we make such works for third parties. Magic is understood as the science and art of provoking a change according to one’s Will. Magic is a tool used by the individual in its path to become a god. If you can't study and apply the 11 Luciferian Points of Power as a strong-minded individual, don't expect any of us to help you.

I am interested in Luciferianism and want to know more about this philosophy, what books do you suggest me to read?

The basic reading about the philosophy of the GCoL is Wisdom of Eosphoros, written by the founders of the Church: Michael W. Ford, Jeremy Crow and Hopemarie Ford. This book can be acquired through Amazon or in the Luciferian Apotheca website. A list with recommended literature can be found at the end of this document.

II. ADMINISTRATIVE QUESTIONS

I would like to perform the Ceremony of Self-Illumination

There is no official representative in my area, but I would like to attend to a meeting/getting more information.

There is no official representative in my area, and I would like to become a representative.

What is the Inner Circle?

What is The Order of Phosphorus?

Annex: suggested readings.

I am interested in getting in touch with an official representative from the GCoL, what should I do?

The GCoL is present in the United States, and official representatives can be reached through the official Facebook group through the link below:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/geartercurchoflucifercircle/

I would like to know if there are meetings close to where I live.

If you live in any of the countries where the GCoL has official representation, you can get in touch with the one on your country or area. If your country or area does not have an official representative, go to the next question.

There is no official representative in my area, but I would like to attend to a meeting/getting more information.

If you wish more information about the GCoL, you can contact any of the official representatives. If you wish meetings to be held in your area, you can organize them yourself, following the guidance of an official representative from your country. To gain a complete reference to information on the GCoL, read a copy of 'Wisdom of Eosphoros - The Luciferian Philosophy' and take time to read carefully the information on this website. Chances are, the answers are there.

There is no official representative in my area, and I would like to become a representative.

To be a representative of the GCoL, you must go through a screening process so we can be sure that you have what is necessary to hold this position. First and foremost, you must contact your country’s national representative in charge, who will send you a form you’ll have to fill. The filled form will be sent to the national representative for evaluation. Once approved, you will be informed of the formal process to become an Official Representative of the GCoL.

I would like to perform the Ceremony of Self-Illumination

If you are in a country or area with official representation, get in touch with them. You will be interviewed by the representative, about your objectives, motives and goals behind your decision, and to establish the place and date for your Ceremony. This Ceremony has no monetary cost, but it implies an important step towards becoming responsible of one’s own life and quest for knowledge. If there is no official representative in your area, get in touch with the National Representative to know what options are available for you to do the Ceremony. The Ceremony of Self-Illumination is a self-determined affirmation in which the individual commits and formalizes his or her beginning upon the Left Hand Path of Luciferian Apotheosis. The LHP means in this context: the self-determined solitude of the self, aware that you are accountable for your path in life.

What is the Inner Circle?

The Inner Circle consists of members of the GCoL seeking to deepen their knowledge in subjects more profound than those explored in the Outer Circle. The Inner Circle offers a more mature ambient which is also more intellectually demanding. In the Inner Circle, what matters is not quantity, but quality. Once in the Inner Circle, you can choose to become Representative for an area or region.

What is the Order of Phosphorus?

The Order of Phosphorus is a magical organization founded by Michael W. Ford, which focuses on the Luciferian tradition from an initiatory perspective. Its structure is divided in sub-orders, such as: Ordo Algol (Chaos Magic with a Luciferian and LHP-based approach), Ordo Azariel (Vampyric Magic), the Order of Set-Apep (Egyptian Typhonian Magic), the Daughters of Lilith (sorority of Luciferian witches exploring the feminine dimension of the daemonic), and the Black Order of the Dragon (focusing on Predatory Spirituality; access is granted only by invitation). Members of the GCOL can become members of the Order of Phosphorus if they so desire.
